Narayan Dattatraya Apte

Narayan Apte was born in 1911. He did his graduation from Bombay University obtaining a Bachelor of Science. He worked as a teacher in the American Mission high school in Ahmednagar. He started a Rifle training School in Ahmednagar. He joined the Hindu Mahasabha and there he met Vishnu Karkare, and Nathuram Godse. Apte was involved in many of the previous unsuccessful attempts to murder the Mahatma. He and his gang were also involved in a lot of cases of arson and bomb throwing in Maharashtra. Apte was the co - publisher of the Agrani and subsequently Hindu Rashtra. It is believed that he was the brain behind the murder conspiracy. Apte was sentenced to be hanged by the neck until dead. The execution was carried out at the Ambala Jail on November 15, 1949. Nathuram and Narayan shared the same gallows.
